THESE GIANT HOLES WERE DUG TRYING TO FIND SOMETHING TINY

#1 Koffiefontein Mine - Africa 33 Year old photographer Dillon Marsh created a computer image of all the diamonds found in the Kofflefontein Mine in Africa to show the contrast between the size of the whole lot of diamonds compared to the 2500 foot deep, 1600 foot wide crater where they were found and excavated.

#2 All The Diamonds If you were to take all the diamonds found in the mind and make them into a ball, they would only measure 3.5 feet in diameter, as shown here in the computer generated image by Dillon Marsh.

#3 Kimberly Mine A sharp contrast is the Kimberly Mine. Between 1871 and 1914 the Kimberly Mine, also known as the Big Hole produced only a tiny amount of diamonds from the 22 millions tons of earth removed.

#4 A Sculpture At Kimberly Mine A sculpture of the diamonds found at the Kimberly Mine shows the magnitude of how big these diamond mines are compared to the diamonds found.

#5 The Jagersfontein Mine This mine measures 1700 feet wide and 700 feet deep produced a ball of diamonds measure just 3 feet across.
